My Internship Blog posts

After much time spent in the motion graphics nook of the building with CROP’s resident specialist, Kyler, I’ve come to learn and understand so many new programs and scripts that will no doubt help me with my endeavors in the future.

Kyler is a motion graphics editor, a compositor, and an animator, so it’s safe to say I’ve learned a lot. I’ve sat with him and learned as I watched him fly through several personal and company projects. Kyler codes in his free time and uses scripts for After Effects alongside whatever expressions he’s already using in his projects– This has encouraged me to use the tools that are at my disposal a lot more.

And also, not for nothing, I’m a lot more purposeful and clean about my projects now. Labeling files ahead of time and taking the time to make everything look cleaner has saved me a lot in these past few months, and I owe that to Kyler as well, even if he’s too humble to admit that.

I’ve learned the fundamentals of the animation suite Blender, and very seriously considered buying DuIk, which is what some commercial animators for their frames, despite the fact that I would have no use for it in the long run. The programs are just so cool, and there is so much to learn about them. Ultimately, though, I will stick with my tried and true software, After Effects. As much as it irritates me, and as much as it crashes, and as much as it refuses to cache any of the project that I’m rendering even though I’ve freed up RAM and storage space, I haven’t spent ten years learning it just to throw that all away.
